Lower Keys Medical Center Earns Echocardiography Accreditation
8/3/2021
The Echocardiography Lab at Lower Keys Medical Center has been granted a three-year term of accreditation by the Intersocietal Accreditation Committee (IAC) in the area of adult transthoracic echocardiography (TTE). Transthoracic echocardiogram is a noninvasive procedure using an ultrasound probe to obtain images of the heart to determine heart muscle and valvular structure and function. A transthoracic echocardiogram may be ordered to diagnose heart disease, monitor heart valve changes, or to see if medications or surgical procedures are working.
Accreditation by the IAC means that the Echo Lab has undergone an intensive application and review process and is found to be in compliance with the published Standards, demonstrating a commitment to quality patient care in echocardiography. Involving a detailed self-evaluation followed by a thorough review by a panel of medical experts, the accreditation process enables both the critical operational and technical components of the facility to be assessed, including representative case studies and final reports.
“We are very proud of our team at Lower Keys Medical Center for achieving this accreditation. The training and experience of our staff, along with our equipment and our processes to monitor quality metrics all contribute to positive patient outcomes,” said Michelle Bachtel, M.D., FACC, medical director of non-invasive cardiology.
IAC accreditation is a “seal of approval” that indicates consistent quality care and dedication to continuous improvement.
Lower Keys Medical Center is accredited by The Joint Commission, and is accredited by the American College of Cardiology as a Chest Pain Center, and by the American Heart Association/The Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center.
